‘The Big Issues’ is a new London poetry workshop, which Katrina will run on Sat 18 May for the Poetry School, 10.30 am to 4.30 pm.
Katrina’s workshop will tackle some of the most pressing issues of the day and promote a lot of new writing. Come with an open mind and a fresh notebook.
‘The Big Issues’ day workshop will look at the work of poets such as Ray Antrobus, Hashem Beck, Terrance Hayes, Alice Oswald, Danez Smith, Tracy K. Smith, Fiona Benson, Jack Underwood and Ocean Vuong. The one-day session will explore poetry on class, ethnicity, love, war, sex, sexuality, religion and politics. It will consider how to write about some of humanity’s biggest – and at times, most difficult – issues while remaining true to yourself. The workshop will consider the use of form, including ghazals and sonnets, as well as free verse. ‘The Big Issues’ workshop will feature close reading, discussion and plenty of writing.
Katrina is a skilled tutor and prize-winning poet, with a PhD in creative writing from Goldsmiths.
‘The Big Issues’ workshop will be in the Poetry School offices at 1 Dock Offices, Surrey Quays Road, Canada Water, SE16 2XU. The venue is a 2-minute walk from Canada Water Station. Take the ‘Lower Road’ exit from the station onto Surrey Quays Road, then walk straight ahead, crossing over Deal Porters Way, and the Dock Offices come up on the left. The door for the school is at the far end of the building.
