Katrina runs workshops and residential courses for Arvon, the Poetry School and Ty Newydd. Her workshops are always popular. A participant recently wrote: ‘I enjoyed that. I feel reckless now.’

Katrina’s next residential course is at Ty Newydd in August 2019. Katrina is teaching The Personal and the Political with Deryn Rees-Jones, and Mona Arshi will be guest tutor.

And in November 2019, Katrina is running a tutored retreat, Developing Strengths and Finding New Avenues with Fiona Benson, and with Richard Scott as guest. The course is at Arvon’s Totleigh Barton in Devon.

Teigmouth Poetry Festival says: ‘Katrina’s workshops can be challenging. She is a bold leader, assertive but sympathetic. She opens doors to unexplored rooms, shines a ruthless spotlight on lines you’ve always left cowering in dark corners. Katrina lights fuses – fireworks should be expected.’

Katrina also runs Poetry Surgeries for the Poetry Society via skype and face-to-face. The next date is 16 March in Penzance at 10.30 am and 11.30 am.

To be kept up to date on Katrina’s workshops, you can subscribe to her monthly ‘short & sweet’ poetry newsletter.

Katrina also runs a poetry mentoring and manuscript critique service to help poets putting together a pamphlet or first collection. Here’s what she offers:

  • Prices start at £75 for comments on 6 poems – for this you’ll receive written comments on your poems and an hour’s feedback session – either face-to-face, or skype or by phone
  • Pamphlet feedback – £120 for comments on up to 30 poems – you’ll receive written comments and an hour’s feedback
  • Collection feedback – £170 for comments on up to 60 poems – you’ll receive written comments and up to 90 mins feedback.
  • Please get in touch to find out more. Several of Katrina’s mentees have gone on to win prizes and be published.

Katrina holds a PhD in creative writing from Goldsmiths and has received several awards for her writing. In addition to teaching for Arvon and mentoring for the Poetry Society, she teaches for the Poetry School. She has previously taught at Goldsmiths and Falmouth University.

She is a member of the National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE), the Society of Authors and the Poetry Society. Katrina has a valid CRB certificate and public liability insurance.

Contact Katrina if you would like her to run a workshop for your group or to receive details of her poetry critique/mentoring service.

Katrina’s kind and incisive eye helped me to clarify ways forward with my writing – she is generous with her experience and knowledge. Showing her my poems and listening to her feedback was a great step for me towards thinking of myself as a poet.

Katrina has been mentoring me since June last year. She has close read poems for me and her suggestions are always pertinent. Katrina has also made suggestions on the ordering of poems for a pamphlet collection, which has now been accepted for publication by Red Squirrel Press. She is very good at suggesting magazines which may like poems.
